Sprekelia formosissima flowering

Sprekelia formossima9

With apologies to the narcissus and tulip lovers, one of my favorite spring-flowering bulbs has to be the Aztec lily, Sprekelia formosissima.  After a spring flowering periof, aztec lily often re-flowers in summer and again in fall.  The key to success with these is to plant them in hot sites in baking sun.  Here’s how it looks in our gardens this week.

  1. This is spectacular! I wish the plants had names we could remember better, like Big Bodacious Lola and Red Velvet Elvis!! Love your site!
